The Buddhist Confession

The most heartbreaking thing that I saw in February when we were in India and Thailand was going into the main temples and hearing the teacher give his hope to the people.

All followers were to wear a yellow robe, shave their heads, carry a begging bowl, take part in daily meditation, and subscribe to the Buddhist confession: “I take refuge in the Buddha; I take refuge in the Dharma (the Law); I take refuge in the Order.” Buddhists were also to obey the Ten Precepts: Refrain from destroying life, don’t take what is not given, be chaste, be honest, do not drink intoxicants, do not eat after noon, do not watch dancing or singing or drama, do not wear ornaments or scents or garlands, do not have a high or broad bed, and do not possess any silver or gold.
Anything that puts our hope in ourselves is really a hopeless religion. We can’t even keep the standards that we set for ourselves! We say that we want to lose weight and gain some more!

I am thankful that our hope is not in our efforts, but in our Savior’s.

That is good news, and He is worthy to be praised for winning the victory over sin, for us all, that we could not conquer.

When you see the faise hope of the lost, one stops to thank God for the Love of God in Jesus Christ in redeeming us. They that sit in darkness can not have real peace.

Amen. I am thankful that my hope is in a living Savior that has some proof that what He said was true.
