January 2012 Prayer Letter

Deputation Update

Since our last prayer letter we have had 5 churches take us on for support and others promised for this year! Praise the Lord! We spent the last month in OH, TN, MS, AR, MO, and TX. We had a very good month considering the difficult time of deputation due to Christmas holidays.

We were able to schedule some meetings in TX around some family for Christmas, so we are very thankful for the chance to spend time there.

Pray for us this month as we

We are Having a Girl!

We just found out this past week that our first child is going to be a girl! Everything is looking good so far and the due date is still at June 2nd and we are thankful for every way that the Lord continues to bless!

Survey Trip coming up

Please be praying for our survey trip to Thailand coming up on Valentine’s Day – February 14th – 29th.

Pray for discernment, wisdom, protection, and provision. We will be seeing multiple cities and talking with many missionaries and Thai believers and trying to discern a location to live, work, go to language school, and many other important issues.

We have some final things to solidify between now and then to get ready for international travel and we are asking the Lord to lead in our preparation.

Summit Report

We have been asking for prayer for the Summit – a conference we had a part in between Christmas and the new year, and the Lord really blessed. There were many called into missions and many other decisions made, so thank you for praying.

I played a small part in a wonderful conference and preached and taught in a few of the sessions – Intro to Asia, How the Gospel prepares us for ministry, and Your place in the King’s Mission.

Thank you so much for the prayers and support on our way to Thailand.

Yours for the Gospel in Thailand,
Philip and Lori Bassham

November Prayer Letter

Deputation Update
Praise the Lord we have over half of our needed support after being on deputation for just over a year! The last 2 months we have been in meetings in Mississippi, Texas, Kansas, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, Georgia, a lot of missions conferences and, praise the Lord, added many new supporters.

This holiday season, we are overwhelmed where the Lord has taken us just since last year. We are extremely blessed and thankful for bringing us so far on the road to Thailand.

Big Change to VisionTour Thailand! // Postponed Because of Baby Bassham
Though we had around 25 people planning on coming with us to Thailand, we have had to postpone the trip due to unforeseen circumstances – Our Baby’s due date is set at June 2nd! Unfortunately this is 2 days before when we were planning our trip Thailand 2012, so we have had to postpone a group trip to another year.

Instead, Lori and I will be going much sooner (before the baby gets too far along) in February.  We were able to book our tickets to Thailand at a good price just recently. This will be Lori’s first opportunity to go to the country, so she is very excited! Ahmet and Rachael Hernandez will be joining us as they prepare to start deputation next year.

There is a lot of work to get done on the trip – • Finalize plans for a language school, • finalize plans for working with a missionary when we arrive • look at where we plan to live and see houses • meet with other missionaries in other parts of the country than just Bangkok.

Thailand Update
Over the past 3 months Thailand has been flooded. In fact over 20% of the country was under water. Over 600 people died in the flooding and there has been a serious impact on the economy. Pray for us and other laborers to get over there quickly

Relocation and Setup Fund
Now that we are on the second half of deputation, we will soon be in Thailand (!) and are trying to plan in advance for the costs of relocating there permanently. Tickets, shipping costs, and housing setup make this a big expense to plan for, but we are trusting the Lord to provide.

If you would like to give toward this need, you may send it to Vision Baptist Missions and memo “Setup Fund”. Thank you for praying about this and we look forward to that day!

Our Generation Summit
This December 29-31 we will be at the Summit – a missions oriented winter retreat in Pigeon Forge, TN that we promise that you will not regret. We would like to encourage and you to consider being a part.

September Prayer Letter

1 Year Deputation Update!
We have done more driving this month on deputation this past month than of all deputation so far. This past month we were in 17 states and drove over 6000 miles! It was a blast, but I don’t plan on driving to Montana again any time soon!

We have now been on deputation for 1 year and are at 51% of our support, but counting promised support we are closer to 65%, so we are looking forward to getting there soon and praying that the momentum of the past year’s work will allow us to finish very quickly!

Family – Our First Baby on the Way!!
We found out this month that we are expecting our first baby! I am excited about being a Father and looking forward to raising a child for the glory of God!

On August 29th, Lori and I also celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary, and a few days later, on the 6th, I turned 29. I am blown away how the Lord has blessed me and allows me to serve Him as a missionary and preacher with my incredible wife.

Thailand Update
This past month we have learned about opportunities to be able to preach the gospel even in public schools in Thailand. There are far more schools available than there are laborers right now to teach English and we are praying that more will be raised before the schools are filled with cults and other religions fill those places. Would you ask the Lord how you may be able to be used?! The job is far bigger than we can accomplish alone.

August Prayer Letter

Deputation Update
We have had a good time lately traveling and preaching and want to praise the Lord for how He continues to raise our support. Our support level at 11 months is just over 40% and promised support is much higher. We have not been very far from home for extended periods of time over the last couple of months, but we are about to start on our longest road trip of deputation so far. We are going to start in AL and then go through KY on our way out west to Montana and Idaho. Pray that these will be profitable meetings as we continue to work toward Thailand soon!

Other Ministry Opportunities
When we aren’t traveling on deputation or calling to set up meetings, we have the chance for some other ministry opportunities. One of those was a recent one day youth camp that our church put on with some area churches. We had a good time at that and saw the Lord work in some hearts.

Another opportunity I had this summer was to teach a two-week module at the Our Generation Training Center. This summer it was on Creation vs. Evolution and we pray that this will be used by the students as a foundation as they will go all over the world one day to preach the inerrant Bible.

VisionTour Thailand 2012 Date Change
We have had to move the date up one week for the VisionTour to Thailand next year due to the date change of the OG Camp. The dates are now June 4-15, 2012.If you are interested in joining us you can get more information at http://projectthailand.net/trip where you can find the application, schedule, financial information, and other ways to help you be able to join us. Come with us!

Setup Fund
I would like to as you to be praying for our setup fund. If you would like to give specifically to this need, you may send it to Vision Baptist Missions and mark it “Setup Fund”. Thank you for praying about this and we look forward to that day!

Our Generation Summit
This December 31-January 1 we will be a part of the Our Generation Summit, a family oriented missions winter retreat in Pigeon Forge, TN. We would like to encourage and you to consider being a part.We have been involved in it for the past 5 years and have seen God do incredible things every year! Some have described it as a missions conference on steroids and we look forward to seeing what He is going to do this year. For more information visit www.bcwe.org

Thank you for praying and supporting us. Pray that the Lord would use us as we travel and especially that he would raise up laborers for Thailand.

Yours for the Gospel in Thailand,

June Prayer Letter

Deputation Update
Just after 8 months of deputation, we are up to over 30,000 miles and have a third of our support raised!

This past month we have been in churches in GA, AR, MO, MS, TN, and SC, and many of them have taken us on for support.  We are excited that the Lord is raising our support.

Ordination
I will be getting ordained on June 23, 2011, just 2 weeks from writing this, and I would like to invite you, if you are able, to come for this special day of being ordained into the Gospel ministry of the Lord. I am excited about how the Lord has worked in my life bringing me to this point and could not be more excited about what the Lord has called us to do.

Announcing VisionTour Thailand 2012

Screen_shot_2011-06-08_at_12

Next year, when we head over to get final arrangements made for our permanent move to Thailand, we are planning on taking a group of people interested in Thailand with us to visit the field.

If you are interested in joining us you can get more information at http://projectthailand.net/trip where you can find the application, schedule, financial information, and other ways to help you be able to join us. Come with us!

Starting our Setup Fund

As we our support continues to come in, we look and plan more for that day when we will land in the country of Thailand to begin our work there. This will require much preparation and work to get set up in the country, so we are beginning to save now for that day.

If you would like to give specifically to this need, you may send it to Vision Baptist Missions and mark it “Setup Fund”. Thank you for praying about this and we look forward to that day!

Our Generation Leadership Camp Report

PastedGraphic-8.pdf Download this file

This past month we were a part of the OG Camp in Dayton, TN, and it was fantastic. We have been a part for the past 5 or 6 years, but I think this one was the best. Though it was a camp focused on missions, we had 5 or 6 saved and around 20 surrender for missions if that would be the Lord’s will for their lives.

Thank you for praying and supporting us. Pray that the Lord would use us as we travel and especially that he would raise up laborers for Thailand.

Yours for the Gospel in Thailand,
Philip and Lori Bassham

May Prayer Letter

Deputation Update
Just after 7 months of deputation, we are up to 27,000 miles and are already over 30% of our support with much more promised! This past month we have been in churches in FL, MD, NC, TX, TN, and SC, and many of them have taken us on for support. We are excited about how the Lord is raising our support.

Ministry
We have had the opportunity to preach this month in a lot of places and the Lord has been doing some wonderful works in people’s hearts about missions and the ministry. We have seen some surrender to missions, some to the ministry, and others are considering it for the first time.
Our New (Free) Car!

Image

The Lord has provided us a car free of charge! We had been praying recently about getting a more reliable car for deputation and someone heard about it and gave us one! Praise the Lord! He does answer prayer and we are continuously humbled how He continually provides for us.
VBM Orientation
The first week of May, we will be at Vision Baptist Missions orientation with about 40 other people that are already missionaries or that are in training and are planning on starting very soon. It will be a time of growing, enrichment, stretching, and learning.

March Prayer Letter

February 28, 2011

Survey Trip Report

The first couple of weeks of February we went on our survey trip and the Lord opened our eyes and opened doors as we traveled the country, talked with missionaries, and stood in the midst of darkness. Honestly, I felt overwhelmed at the enormous task of just the city of Bangkok. We stood at the top of a skyscraper and in every direction 40 story apartments and offices covered the landscape as far as the eye could see.

At every corner there is a spirit house and a shrine in every shop. Buddhism is everywhere. Churches are nowhere. The Satanic and demonic influence is literally everywhere.

Thank you to so many that helped us make this initial trip to Thailand. It was extremely beneficial along the road as we prepare to work there full time.

For more information and pictures go here:

Deputation Update
After 6 months on deputation, we are just over 28% of our support. Praise the Lord that we are currently even a little ahead of our goal by almost 3 months!  The Lord is really blessing as we travel and we thank Him and all of those that have allowed us to come by and share our burden for Thailand and especially to those that have partnered with us.

Just in January we had promised support from 7 churches and February added at least 2 more.

This month we are scheduled to be in meetings 19 days of the month, so it should be a busy one as well.

Our Generation Leadership Camp
This May 30th – June 3rd is the Our Generation Student Leadership Camp for Ministry and Missions. January Prayer Letter

Deputation Update

Support is coming in great!  So far, we have travelled right at 15,000 miles and are at about 19% of our support after 4 months on deputation!  We are right on track to get to the field within our 2 year goal!
After the holidays and into the new year, we are into the main stretch of deputation, so this year should be a wild and crazy ride!  We have just started our first cross-country trip of the year. We just finished a meeting in Louisiana, and now are in TX for few weeks, then NC and GA before heading out on our survey trip to Thailand!
To be honest, the Christmas season was scary because we didn’t have as many meetings as we usually do, and our livelihood right now is totally from preaching and the generosity of churches, and when you aren’t in churches, there is no money coming in! But He has always been faithful to me when I had no idea how the ends were going to meet, and this month was no exception.  We don’t deserve His goodness or the generosity of other Christians, but the Lord has used many people in specific and important ways to take care of His servant like He said He would. And we praise Him for that!

Summit Report

We look forward every year to the Summit in Pigeon Forge, TN, and this year was one of the best!  About 15 missionary families and over 250 people from all over the country gathered for 3 days of intensive missions teaching and preaching.  I was able to teach one of the sessions to college students about preparation for the mission field, and preach to everyone about God’s promises in the Gospel for Thailand.
We have been praying for laborers and we saw the Lord call many into missions service, and some considering Thailand!  It was special to be able to meet and talk with a man and his family as they are praying about going to Thailand, along with others unmarried and still in college!

Survey Trip Update

This time next month I will be in Thailand! I can hardly wait! It will be like Israel crossing the Jordan for the first time and seeing where the Lord wants us.  And I believe I picked out some good spies to take with me to see the opportunities. Pray the final details fall into place and he keeps us safe and directs our steps!

December Prayer Letter

Deputation update

We have been on deputation 3.5 months as of today, and already the Lord has provided about 19% of our needed monthly support.  So far, we are right on track to meet our goal of leaving by September of 2012.

This past month we had 4 meetings in North Carolina, 11 here in Georgia, 1 in South Carolina, 1 in Florida, and 1 in Tennessee and are up to over 13,600 miles driven so far on deputation.  Our car is still doing surprisingly well, the Lord is providing for our needs, and making our paths straight.

After the first of the year our calendar is almost completely full until the summer months, so we are excited about that, but we have a few open dates around Christmas.  I don’t know why that would be! The way I see it, the whole Christmas story is the greatest missionary story ever told!

Summit

At the end of this month we will be a part of the Our Generation Summit, which is a family-focused missions retreat.  We will be one of the 10 missionary families that will be representing areas from all over the world that need the gospel. There will be sessions for the whole family, and then break out sessions for specific focus on what you are interested in. Find out more at BCWE.org.

Survey Trip News

Over the last months we have made a lot of progress on our trip to Thailand.  I want to thank Trent Cornwell for doing so much with the travel arrangements. We have our visas in hand, our tickets purchased, and I had to spend more than I wanted on renewing my passport, but everything is coming together well.

The trip will be a 10 day whirlwind. Our itinerary is not totally finalized, but tentatively, we will fly from Atlanta to   New Dehli, India, and then go over to Varanasi for a couple of days and visit the birthplace of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism.  Then we will hurry over to Bangkok, Thailand, meet up with some missionaries that we know, visit a few of the sites, like the main temple in Bangkok, and then take a short plane ride up to Chaing Mai to meet with some other missionaries there.  Pray that these logistics will work out well and we will be able to see what the Lord would have for us while there.

September Update

Dear Pastors and Praying Friends,

Deputation Update

So far on our first month of deputation, we have driven 4,637 miles and are coming close to 10% of our support!  But over 40,000 have died without the Gospel since we started.

Georgia – For the first 3 weeks of September traveled in Georgia for 8 meetings including the missions conference at our home church, Vision Baptist Church, where among other things, we saw the Lord raise our Faith Promise 47% up to $118,000 for this coming year, as well as seeing a couple surrender their lives for missions during the conference.

Texas – Immediately after our missions conference ended on the 19th, we drove out to Texas to start a stint away from our home, that wont end until November. We started in Ft. Worth, then to Weatherford, down to Austin, back up to Weatherford, and we are writing this letter from down south in the Houston area.

From here we have a few more meetings in TX, and then we will be going to LA, AL, GA, and FL before we make it back home in November.

Already we see the Lord providing for us in specific areas, like tires for the car, protecting us, using us as we go to churches, and adding new supporters.

Survey Trip to Thailand

Please pray about an urgent need that we have coming up very soon.  We just found out that we have only a few weeks to buy our ticket for our survey trip to Thailand before the ticket price goes up dramatically.

$1800 is needed for a single ticket, and I will be going with my Pastor, youth Pastor, and a few other men from our home church in February. I am thankful to have a church that is so involved in our ministry and look forward to what He is going to do through this trip.

This will be my first trip to Thailand so that we can get a more accurate idea about opportunities for ministry, as well as living conditions and ministry expenses so that we will know better what kind of support we need to raise before we leave.

Please pray that we will be able to raise this money in the next couple of weeks.  If you would like to give you can send a special gift to:

Philip Bassham
Vision Baptist Missions
P.O. Box 442
Alpharetta, GA 30009

I am extremely grateful to you for your support and prayers and count it an honor to be your missionary to Thailand.

Yours for the Gospel in Thailand,
Philip and Lori Bassham
