December Prayer Letter

Deputation update

We have been on deputation 3.5 months as of today, and already the Lord has provided about 19% of our needed monthly support.  So far, we are right on track to meet our goal of leaving by September of 2012.

This past month we had 4 meetings in North Carolina, 11 here in Georgia, 1 in South Carolina, 1 in Florida, and 1 in Tennessee and are up to over 13,600 miles driven so far on deputation.  Our car is still doing surprisingly well, the Lord is providing for our needs, and making our paths straight.

After the first of the year our calendar is almost completely full until the summer months, so we are excited about that, but we have a few open dates around Christmas.  I don’t know why that would be! The way I see it, the whole Christmas story is the greatest missionary story ever told!

Summit

At the end of this month we will be a part of the Our Generation Summit, which is a family-focused missions retreat.  We will be one of the 10 missionary families that will be representing areas from all over the world that need the gospel. There will be sessions for the whole family, and then break out sessions for specific focus on what you are interested in. Find out more at BCWE.org.

Survey Trip News

Over the last months we have made a lot of progress on our trip to Thailand.  I want to thank Trent Cornwell for doing so much with the travel arrangements. We have our visas in hand, our tickets purchased, and I had to spend more than I wanted on renewing my passport, but everything is coming together well.

The trip will be a 10 day whirlwind. Our itinerary is not totally finalized, but tentatively, we will fly from Atlanta to   New Dehli, India, and then go over to Varanasi for a couple of days and visit the birthplace of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism.  Then we will hurry over to Bangkok, Thailand, meet up with some missionaries that we know, visit a few of the sites, like the main temple in Bangkok, and then take a short plane ride up to Chaing Mai to meet with some other missionaries there.  Pray that these logistics will work out well and we will be able to see what the Lord would have for us while there.

September Update

Dear Pastors and Praying Friends,

Deputation Update

So far on our first month of deputation, we have driven 4,637 miles and are coming close to 10% of our support!  But over 40,000 have died without the Gospel since we started.

Georgia – For the first 3 weeks of September traveled in Georgia for 8 meetings including the missions conference at our home church, Vision Baptist Church, where among other things, we saw the Lord raise our Faith Promise 47% up to $118,000 for this coming year, as well as seeing a couple surrender their lives for missions during the conference.

Texas – Immediately after our missions conference ended on the 19th, we drove out to Texas to start a stint away from our home, that wont end until November. We started in Ft. Worth, then to Weatherford, down to Austin, back up to Weatherford, and we are writing this letter from down south in the Houston area.

From here we have a few more meetings in TX, and then we will be going to LA, AL, GA, and FL before we make it back home in November.

Already we see the Lord providing for us in specific areas, like tires for the car, protecting us, using us as we go to churches, and adding new supporters.

Survey Trip to Thailand

Please pray about an urgent need that we have coming up very soon.  We just found out that we have only a few weeks to buy our ticket for our survey trip to Thailand before the ticket price goes up dramatically.

$1800 is needed for a single ticket, and I will be going with my Pastor, youth Pastor, and a few other men from our home church in February. I am thankful to have a church that is so involved in our ministry and look forward to what He is going to do through this trip.

This will be my first trip to Thailand so that we can get a more accurate idea about opportunities for ministry, as well as living conditions and ministry expenses so that we will know better what kind of support we need to raise before we leave.

Please pray that we will be able to raise this money in the next couple of weeks.  If you would like to give you can send a special gift to:

Philip Bassham
Vision Baptist Missions
P.O. Box 442
Alpharetta, GA 30009

I am extremely grateful to you for your support and prayers and count it an honor to be your missionary to Thailand.

Yours for the Gospel in Thailand,
Philip and Lori Bassham

August Prayer Letter

Full time Deputation!
It is finally here!  We are on full time deputation to start churches in Thailand.  We have been preparing for this day for 10 years, and the Lord has faithfully brought it to pass.  Our schedule is about to change quite drastically, and we need your prayer that we would be able to have an effective ministry on deputation.  Here are some specific things that we would ask you to pray about on deputation:

  • That our support will be raised very quickly and we would be able to have the resources that we will need to minister in that dark land. Our goal is 2 years.
  • That he would lead us to the right churches on deputation.  I believe that he will, but we want to find like-minded churches that we can strive with together in the ministry.
  • That we could see people stirred up and raised up for the ministry.  We are asking God to raise up actual workers that will work with us in Thailand or somewhere in the world.  Would you pray with us for God to send forth laborers into His harvest?
  • That we will be able to learn a ton from the hundreds of people in the ministry that we will meet.

We have been busy the last few months filling our schedule, but if you know of a church that may be interested in having us come present the ministry, we still have openings!

Passing the Baton
This last week we have done a lot of things for the first and last time.
Lasts:
  • Taught the singles class at Vision Baptist.  For almost the last 5 years I have had the privilege to be the Singles Director and we have come a long ways from when we started with nothing.  The Lord has blessed and people have been saved and baptized, the class has grown, other classes have been started, and now we have turned it over to a young couple that I know will do a great job.
  • Lead music. It was also my last time to practice with, sing, and direct the congregation.  I didn’t even know if I wanted that job 5 years ago, but the Lord has done so many great things through it and I am going to miss the music ministry and people that God has allowed me to serve with.

Firsts:
  • Anniversary! We have now been married for one whole year, and I had no idea how wonderful this was going to be. I have an amazing, sweet, and very helpful wife and I love her very much.  She has been amazingly cooperative considering all the crazy decisions we have made over the last year!
  • Commissioning Service – We had our commissioning service on our anniversary actually, and we are extremely excited to be sent out of Vision Baptist Church.  They showed us a ton of love and person after person encouraged us as we head out to start deputation.

Traveling
This month we had the opportunity to be in a few meetings in GA, and spent a week in Arkansas in a conference there.  God has been providing for our needs in amazing ways as we transition from our normal job to traveling on deputation.  It is strengthening our faith as we step out and begin to live in some uncertain months as we get started
Arkansas.
He has also already provided many new supporters this month and we look forward to our partnership together in the Gospel!
