If Facebook was a country, it would be the 3rd largest in all the world with a population of 645 million, and Bangkok would be the 5th largest city.
Just the city of Bangkok has 7.5 million members on Facebook. That is impressive considering that Thailand is a third world country.
The vast majority of Facebook users in Thailand are in the capital city of Bangkok. There is just 900,000 users in the rest of the country combined. Most likely the reason for this is the college age students that come to Bangkok for education and stay for the industry. Though 62% of Bangkok uses Facebook, usage is only about 13% of the entire country.
I think this is an exciting opportunity to assist in reaching Thailand. I have friends that have put up websites with the Gospel and an invitation to church and advertised solely with Facebook ads and had thousands upon thousands visit.
That is a big opportunity.
Also, since I am just one person, Facebook can be used to help stay in contact with people that I meet, let them know about things going on at the church, and share biblical truths in their newsfeed. They wont be getting that from anyone else.
Now, one thing I am not sure about is how often people in Thailand use Facebook. We Americans seem to be addicted to it and the vast majority get on it every day, but in Thailand, where most would not have high speed Internet in their houses, they probably get on it far less, mostly on their cell phones, and not in their houses at all.
We shall see, but I’m going to try something.
