I want to praise the Lord for the work he continues to do here and all the blessings of the past month.
The Lord continues to bless and send new people. We have had about 10 people start to come, and come regularly, in the past couple of months, which is encouraging to see.
A young new couple is especially enthusiastic and has been coming to our daily Bible studies and really growing. Pray for them and others to continue to take steps of growth in the faith.
The church rental contract is coming up for renewal, which is a real matter of prayer. Prices seem to increase more sharply here than I am used to, but we dont really have the funds to pay more, so pray that it will not increase. Some good news is that we just negotiated our house rent to not increase for another 3 years, so that is 1 down, 1 to go.
After 5 years of being here in Thailand, it is time for our first full furlough. We really need to raise more support for the ministry here. A lot has changed over the past 5 years. We had one little girl10 mo. old when we started this, and now we have 3 that are starting into school. 5 years ago, we didn’t speak a word of Thai, and now we have a growing church in the center of a mega-city of 14 million wonderful Thai people.
5 years ago, there were a lot of unknowns, and many mis-estimates, but now we have a very clear path ahead, so would you pray with us, that we would be able to raise the money we will need for the next 5 years of life and ministry here in this needy land?
There is also a lot to arrange as we prepare to be gone for an extended time. Pray for the ones at church that will be stepping up to new levels of leadership, and taking on teaching and preaching responsibilities more than they have in the past. This is an important time for them to trust God and see Him show Himself strong on their behalf. We also want to thank Ahmet Hernandez who will be helping at the church while we are on furlough.
There are still many things to figure out before February, but I am confident that this will be good for the church and the next years of ministry here.
VBM Regional Conference in Thailand
Our mission board’s Asian Regional Conference is in Thailand this year and we are excited to host. I am looking forward to having time with like-minded brothers to discuss the ministry and life on the mission field. But hosting 50 people will also has its challenges, so pray the logistics will come together where we can focus on the task at hand.
New Teammates — Ben and Caroline Thomas coming to Thailand
One more blessing before we go. Ben and Caroline Thomas have announced they will shortly be joining us as co-laborers here in Thailand! We were happy to have Ben as an intern a few years back, and thrilled that they will be joining us here long term. They are already on deputation, so will likely already be in-country when we return from our furlough. And continue to pray for more laborers to join our little team here in Thailand!
Yours for the Gospel in Thailand,
Philip & Lori Bassham
